115.9% Growth! Inside Shanghai Nangang Port's NEV Export Boom: Faster Customs Clearance and Global Expansion

[Shanghai · Nangang] As 2026 begins, China’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) exports are charging forward with powerful momentum. Recently, as 809 domestically produced NEVs boarded the Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) vessel “Jisu Wealth” bound for Durban, South Africa, Shanghai Nangang Terminal officially released its stellar export scorecard for January.

I. Data Flash: NEVs Become the Ultimate Growth Engine

In January, automobile exports at Shanghai Nangang Terminal demonstrated a simultaneous leap in both quantity and quality:

Record-Breaking Volume: Total vehicle exports reached 82,000 units, a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 65.2%, setting a new historical high for the period.

NEVs Leading the Charge: Domestically produced NEVs accounted for 61,000 units, with a staggering YoY growth rate of 115.92%. This segment now represents the lion's share of total exports, showcasing formidable market penetration.

II. Empowering Customs: 'Fast-Forward' via Smart Governance

To handle the surge in overseas orders, Yangshan Customs has utilized a dual-drive strategy of 'precise coordination + smart supervision' to eliminate export bottlenecks:

Green Channels: Specialized fast-track clearance and inspection mechanisms have been established, significantly reducing non-operational waiting times.

Seamless Supervision: By utilizing full-process visualization technology, regulatory procedures are integrated into the logistics chain, achieving 'zero-wait clearance and zero-interference logistics.'

Efficiency Boost: Optimization of gate release logic has led to a dramatic leap in vehicle turnover efficiency.

'The reduction in customs clearance time and lower logistics costs provide a solid guarantee for us to seize global market opportunities,' noted Wei Wei, Director of the Operations Department at Shanghai Haitong.

III. Future Outlook: Accelerating into the 15th Five-Year Plan

With the full operation of the Nangang Phase II Ro-Ro Terminal and the continuous expansion of key shipping routes—such as the 'Shanghai-Chancay' route—Shanghai Port’s global reach is strengthening.

Xu Junyi, Section Chief of the Sixth Physical Control Division of Yangshan Customs, stated: 'As digital and intelligent supervision applications continue to deepen, we will go all out to improve quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency. Our goal is to help 'Made in China' accelerate its international development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.'
